Level 2 and Level 3 Immigration Advice Authority (Formerly the OISC) Cases: A Deep Dive

Immigration Advice Authority (Formerly the OISC) Certification and Case Types

The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (Immigration Advice Authority (Formerly the OISC)) is the UK’s independent regulator for immigration advisers. To provide immigration advice and services, professionals must be Immigration Advice Authority (Formerly the OISC)-certified. The type of case an immigration adviser can handle depends on their level of Immigration Advice Authority (Formerly the OISC) certification.

Level 2 Cases

Level 2 certification enables immigration advisers to handle more complex cases, such as:

  • Deportation and removal appeals: Representing individuals who are facing deportation or removal from the UK.
  • Human rights cases: Cases involving human rights claims related to immigration.
  • Nationality applications: Applications for British citizenship or naturalisation.
  • Complex family cases: Cases involving complex family relationships or unusual circumstances.

Level 3 Cases

Level 3 certification is the highest level of Immigration Advice Authority (Formerly the OISC) certification and allows immigration advisers to handle the most complex cases, including:

  • Judicial review cases: Challenging decisions made by the Home Office or other government departments.
  • Cases involving international law: Cases involving international treaties or conventions.
  • Cases with significant public interest: Cases that have a significant impact on public policy or immigration law.
